Brian Campbell Interview: Developing Tökr, the Thrilling Cannabis App for Consumers

Tökr, @trytokr is a free app that helps consumers find cannabis products that best fit their lifestyles, whether it’s active, casual, for sleep or pain reduction.

Tökr helps curate products for the most personal cannabis experience depending on your mood, lifestyle, plans or favorite products or ways to consume.

Tökr makes personalized cannabis recommendations available at stores nearby depending on your needs or lifestyle.

We had the honor of interviewing Brian Campbell, the Co-Founder and CPO of Tökr. Find the full interview below.

Ganjly: Tell us your background and what made you decide to pursue a career in cannabis?

Brian Campbell: As founders, we all come from professional backgrounds far removed from the cannabis industry – most recently building technology solutions for Apple, Beats by Dre and the NFL. Our shared affinity for the positive health benefits of cannabis and our desire to educate consumers for responsible consumption led us to the cannabis industry. Technology solutions were severely lacking, not just for consumers, but also brands and dispensaries. Seeing the opportunity for growth and expansion, we built tökr to offer the much needed business tools for brands to create a successful marketing strategy. The app raises industry standards and increases awareness of the health benefits of cannabis by providing a platform for consumers to find safe products to compliment their lifestyle. Our goal is to use our expertise and knowledge gained from technology to jump start the modernization of the cannabis industry.

Ganjly: What kind of qualities do you look for when hiring new members?

Brian Campbell: When we bring in new talent we look for the doers. People who can learn about the needs of the business and creatively solve problems as the expert in their role. Trust is one of the most important needs of our company – and we know that each employee will handle each task with professionalism and efficiency. Personally, I find it incredibly valuable to look outside the cannabis industry for talent. While knowledge of the space is important, fresh thinkers with proven success from other industries is going to help tökr continue to rise beyond the current standard.

Ganjly: What is the most challenging experience you have had in the cannabis industry so far?

Brian Campbell: The industry is at its beginning stages, so naturally the landscape of regulations and legalization is constantly shifting with rules and regulations varying state by state. We are growing a business to scale nationwide and beyond – but we have to be conscious of the current landscape, and where we need to build in temporary solutions while the industry matures.

Ganjly: What is your proudest moment since you started down this path of being an entrepreneur in the cannabis space?

Brian Campbell: Consumers’ responses when we explain tökr. The mission of educating and building awareness of a safe, legal, and personalized cannabis experience is more than just a job. The current opportunity to bring cannabis out of the shadows and into the mainstream is something so needed, as it’s helping so many people in so many ways.

Ganjly: Does tökr have plans for new products, services or events and would you be willing to drop any hints about what we can expect from tökr in the future?

Brian Campbell: This is a long term project. As long as society is evolving to accept cannabis more regularly, tökr will always be at the forefront, helping to envision what the future of cannabis in the modern culture. We also find strength through partnerships and technology integrations to build off of other successes, and help provide opportunities to our partners. For consumers, education is key. And we plan on continuing to bring approachable information to the mainstream.

 

Ganjly: What is your advice for hopeful cannabis entrepreneurs who are considering joining the cannabis industry? What are the positives and negatives they should expect?

Brian Campbell: Don’t get fooled by the ‘get rich quick’ mentality of cannabis right now. The true value is continuing to shift the conversation from stoner to health and wellness – and to support legal tax paying businesses that are bringing professionalism to help normalize the industry.
