Cannabis Love Bar by Lulu’s Botanicals, @luluschocolate won the bronze medal for BEST EDIBLE at the 2017 NorCal Cannabis Cup.

We caught up with the Founder and CEO of Lulu’s Chocolate and Lulu’s Botanicals. Get to know her more and learn what makes her CBD and THC edibles award-winning and how it has helped her customers.

What is your background and what made you decide to get into the cannabis industry?

Lulu Bonner: I’ve been making chocolate for 12 years and have been a cannabis advocate for more than half my life. I’ve made edibles at home for myself and friends for a decade.

Once I realized the lack of truly healthy edibles on the market, I knew I needed to make my offerings available to all.

What are some trends shaping the industry? Where do you think it’s going?

Lulu Bonner: As far as CBD goes, I simply think it’s going to be huge.  For one, I imagine it in every wellness oriented household, as a staple for the supplement shelf.

And of course I see more people looking for natural answers to pain, anxiety, sleeplessness, etc. I expect quite a varied audience to be keeping some form of CBD in stock.

For THC, I expect the mood specific options to become more and more popular as they take the guesswork out of it for people. I also believe that microdosing will become more popular as people realize what functional cannabis is really about.

Once we get the idea of “couch locked stoners” out of our minds, we are often amazed at all the wonderful attributes that cannabis consumption can offer.

How have your products helped your customers?

Lulu Bonner: We’ve received a myriad of beautiful fan mail. Some people tell me our edibles (CBD or THC, I get this comment about both) provide the most complete pain relief they’ve experienced in ages.

I often hear how much our CBD edibles help with insomnia. As far as our low-dose, 1:1 THC edibles go, I’ve heard from many people who were simply scared of edibles due to bad experiences in the past, that our product has brought their faith in edibles back.

Our THC product is also a wonderful way for newcomers to experience cannabis. The balanced ratio of THC & CBD really helps one receive all the benefit without any negative side effects.

It feels good to say yes when someone asks me if they can give our product to a family member who is canna-curious with no experience. And the reports I hear back from that are always very good.

What is your company’s strategy?

Lulu Bonner: For our THC edibles, we are still making tiny batches and watching the regulations closely.  

For our CBD edibles, we are happily making them available nationwide.  We offer them on our website and ship directly to your door. We also wholesale to a huge variety of other retailers.

That includes natural food stores, supplement stores, juice bars, fitness studios, head shops and doctor’s offices.

What makes Lulu’s chocolates different from the other edibles out there?

Lulu Bonner: Our base ingredient is always the infamous Lulu’s Chocolate, that has been on the market as an un-infused chocolate line for twelve years.

We source the very best raw, heirloom Ecuadorian cacao. We sweeten it only with low-glycemic coconut sugar.

Lulu’s Chocolate has always been certified organic, vegan, paleo-friendly and fair trade. Our packaging holds an award for eco-friendly standards.

Do you have any upcoming products you’d like to hint at?

Lulu Bonner: Yes! We will be releasing some new varieties of CBD chocolate this summer.

For THC, we are working on a full size chocolate bar that contains several servings, therefore being a great fit for everyone, no matter what their tolerance is.  

This will allow us to offer a truly healthy edible to consumers beyond the microdosing sector.
