#CBD is one of those substances that people don’t mind experimenting with because it is said that if you take it and you don’t feel anything, you don’t have a problem either way as you won’t get any benefits or side effects.
However, this is a common misconception.
There are some side effects that are associated with CBD and while it would be pretty much impossible or super hard to overdose on the substance.
You may experience undesired issues.
Let’s explore some of the side effects that may happen as a result of too much CBD or simply as a result of taking the substance in general.
How to Take Too much CBD?
There is typically no such thing as too much CBD as long as you are dosing based on general guidelines and your own experience.
Basically, as long as you are not taking high amounts of the substance such as a cup of CBD oil or eating 200 CBD gummies.
There are multiple ways of taking CBD and some people love to vape CBD and others like to use them as bath bombs.
That being said, too much CBD means different things for different people.
Some people will only need small doses to experience their desired benefits.
When they take too much, it could lead to unwanted side effects.
Others may be able to tolerate much higher quantities of the substance and may end up needing larger doses to get the benefits that they need.
You will need to experiment with the substance to learn how much is too much for you and what doses will be necessary to get the benefits you need.
Many people even have started to give CBD to their dogs because of how well it works on them.
Side Effects of CBD?
Much like not everyone experiences the same benefits across the board, not everyone who takes CBD will experience side effects.
Some of the side effects that were studied include the following:
- Dry mouth
- A decrease in blood pressure
- Nausea and vomiting
- A possible increase in shaking or body tremors for those who have Parkinson’s Disease
- An increase or decrease in appetite (not intended by the person taking the substance)
- Dizziness, drowsiness or lightheadedness
- Diarrhea or stomach cramps
- Noticeable changes in overall mood (Most often irritability or agitation and not feelings of sadness or anxiety)
- Possible liver injury (CBD is metabolized through the liver)
It should also be noted that CBD has the potential to interfere with other medications and this in itself could be considered a major side effect.
CBD was found to interact with drug-metabolizing enzymes such as the cytochrome P450 family which 60% of all pharmaceutical drugs are metabolized by the enzyme CYP3A4.
This is the same enzyme that breaks down CBD as well.
Some pharmaceutical drugs inhibit this enzyme and may slow the breakdown of CBD.
In addition, some pharmaceutical drugs increase the production of this enzyme and might speed up in breaking down CBD.
While it is unlikely that you will have to deal with any of these issues when you take CBD, it may be something that you will come across once in a while and should be kept in mind.
We strongly recommend that before you take CBD, consult with your doctor first as CBD may interfere with the medications given to you.
What Happens If You Take Too Much CBD?
What happens if you take too much CBD?
There are two things that could happen if you take “too much CBD”. Either nothing happens at all or you deal with some of the side effects listed above.
One of the more common questions that fall under this one is, is it possible to overdose on CBD? The answer to that question is a resounding no!
However, tread cautiously because there has not been a recorded lethal dosage of the substance.
What is the Correct CBD Dosage?
As we stated earlier in the article, CBD dosages vary from person to person and there is no one specific dose for everyone. There are a lot of factors to consider.
One large factor is the total body weight. A 300-pound man might not experience an effect of a 10 mg CBD oil compared to a 100-pound man.
The amount of CBD that you are going to need to experience the benefits will depend on your total body weight.
The more you weigh, the more you are going to need in order for your body to absorb it and feel the effects.
That being said, there are some guidelines out there that help you to find the least required dose and then work your way up until you experience the benefits that you are looking for.
There are plenty of resources out there that give you dosing guidelines and will tell you different things but a good place to start is about 10 milligrams once per day if you are an adult taking CBD.
One of the recommended ratios we follow is to dose an approximate of 1 to 6 milligrams of CBD for every 10 pounds of your body weight.
From here, take note of how you are feeling after 30 minutes. If you feel that it is too much, you can always lower it.
If you feel as though you are taking nothing, you can gradually increase the dose until you begin experiencing benefits.
You might want to try 10 milligrams twice per day, 10 in the morning and then 10 at night.
Keep in mind that this may take time and you may have to be a little patient before the CBD begins to work.
Finding the right dose is experimental but always start low.
Another factor to consider is the concentration of the CBD that you are taking.
A lower concentration of 25 mg of CBD might not have the same results of a higher concentration of 25 mg.
Even though you may have heard from various sources that there are no consequences to taking CBD.
The truth is that there are always potential side effects for any substance that will help you with health issues.
There is very little research done but slowly these studies are being conducted. We just have to keep ourselves updated.
To better understand which ones are associated with CBD and how the substance may affect you, refer to the guide above when using CBD so that you know how much you should be taking and what is normal to expect when using it.
